Types of food licence

FSSAI Basic Registration

The FSSAI basic registration is for FBOs who have registered under small-scale industries and startups and have an annual turnover of less than Rs 1.5 Cr. Basic registration under FSSAI can be upgraded as per the productivity graph of the FBO.

FSSAI State License

The FSSAI state license is for FBOs who have registered under medium-scale industries and have an annual turnover of less than Rs 20 crore. The state license can be also implemented as a central license which is dependent upon the performance graph of the productivity..

FSSAI Central License

The FSSAI Central license is for FBOs which has a large business and the annual turnover of the industry is more than Rs 20 crore.

Eligibility criteria for FOSCOS Food Registration

Depending upon the type of Food Registration there are different eligibility criteria for FBOs to get registered in FSSAI.

CASE I: For basic Food Registration, FBO has to be registered under small industry and annual turnover must be less than Rs 1.5 Cr.
CASE II: To get the FSSAI state license industry has to be registered under a medium scale industry and annual turnover must be less than Rs 20 crore.
CASE III: To get the FSSAI central license industry has to be registered under a large scale industry and the annual turnover must be more than Rs 20 crore.

Required documents for FOSCOS food licence/registration

Proclamation Form

Applicants should provide the declaration/proclamation form under the name of the owner of the company.

Authority letter

Applicants have to provide the authority letter to ensure the process of registration.

Property Paper

If the owner has property paper issued by the government then the applicant has to provide a copy of property paper.

Rent Agreement Paper

In the case of the rented property, the owner has to provide a copy of the rent agreement(If rented property)

Food Safety Certificate

Applicants have to provide the food safety management system plan or certificate.

Electricity Bill/Water Bill

Applicants have to give the electricity bill/water bill of the (business)working place.

Photo ID Proof

Applicants should provide a copy of valid photo Id proof like - Aadhar card, voter Id card, for the verification process.

Nominee Name

Applicants have to give the name of the nominee to the company along with the board resolution.

Can I sell food products without FSSAI?

No, You can’t sell any food products without having Food Registration/license as per the restriction of the Food Safety & Standards act 2006. Every food business has its own food license/registration to sell the product which is mentioned in the FSSAI regulations.

How do I know my food licence type?

The food licence type is mentioned at the bottom of the registration form/license certificate provided by the FSSAI.

Is Food Registration mandatory?

As per the Food Safety & Standards act 2006, registration in FSSAI is mandatory for all retailers, sellers, restaurants, and for food manufacturing companies.

Can we have two food licences?

Yes, you can have more than one food licence as a requirement for each product. If the license is taken for processing of milk, fruits & vegetables so the requirement of portion will be different and different licenses will be required

Can I renew my license?

Yes, Food Business Operators (FBO) can renew their food licence before 30 days of the expiry date of the license. You have to fill the form A or B as per your business type along with your current license number which has to be renewed.

How to check my food licence number online?

To check the food licence number follow the steps below:

STEP 1: Click on the Food Registration website.

STEP 2: Then you will be redirected to the food licence number page.

STEP 3: Then type your 14 digit Food Registration number. The Wrong FSSAI number will pop up on the screen.

STEP 4: Then the page will redirect to the license profile page, submit your details and get your food licence number online.

What is the validity of the food licence?

The validity of the food licence lies between 1-5 years and the applicant has to apply for the renewal of the license number before 30 days of the expiry of the current license.
